LUSAKA, Zambia — The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has stepped up with a K500,000 contribution including critical resources to reinforce the government’s urgent efforts battling the ongoing national cholera outbreak.
As reported by local outlet Kalemba on Tuesday, the tax agency earmarked the bulk of funds, K300,000, to supply 50 Health Ministry vehicles with 10,000 liters of much-needed fuel. The donation also comprised 50,000 pairs of protective surgical gloves alongside 200 blankets.
In a statement, ZRA spokesperson Oliver Nzala stressed the necessity for a collective push from all facets of society, including public and private institutions like ZRA, to effectively mitigate the impacts of a public health crisis like cholera.
Recognizing the central role of health workers driving the outbreak response, Nzala said collaborative assistance remains vital to improving the situation on the ground. “ZRA will support efforts by the Ministry of Health to improve public health,” he remarked.
The tax body also said it continues adjusting internal policies to align with cholera prevention guidelines from health authorities.
As Zambia’s cholera caseloads escalate, placing strain on national response capacities, the ZRA’s sizeable contribution offers both tangible resources and encouragement that overcoming the outbreak demands pooling strengths from across civic sectors.
